What we ask of you

Explore with us.

Though all of us putting on this program have relevant experience, we have offered this format for ketamine for just over two years, and we are still learning! We ask that you be flexible, open, and generous with your time in giving feedback.

Additional Fees
In addition, you will need to pay a prescriber for medical screening and monitoring.  Dr. Foy’s screening fee is $200. If you have a complex psychiatric history, we suggest you consult with Dr. Parks, whose fee is $300 for a 40 minute session. You will also be paying approximately $70 to Asheville Compounding Pharmacy for your medicine.

Refund Policy
If you withdraw on or before the early registration date, all fees are refundable less a $100 processing charge.   If you withdraw after that, fees paid are non-refundable unless we can fill your spot, in which case a $100 processing charge will be applied.

Commitment to attendance

You must attend for the full day on all dates of the ketamine workshops.  In addition, we ask that you attend most, if not all, of the orientation and integration sessions.

Responsible use of medicine

You agree to use the medicine at workshops only and to stay within the parameters specified by the medical staff. We ask that you notify your primary care physician and/or other healthcare providers of your participation in this therapeutic group, and you may be asked to submit medical records to the site physician.

Research and Documentation

We believe we have devised a novel way to make ketamine therapy available to more people, drastically reducing the price, while providing extensive opportunity for integration. As such, we are asking all participants in these cohorts to help us with two projects. One is research to compare our results to other forms of ketamine treatment, for which we will ask you to fill out some surveys before and after the series. The other is the gathering of some video documentation about the process. We may record some of the virtual meetings and take some video at our gatherings; we would obscure faces for the meeting footage and you would have final say over any recordings. Feel free to let us know if any of this concerns you.

Contraindications

We ask that you review the list below and make sure that none of the items apply to you. If any of them do, but you still feel that it would be safe for you to do this work, we can talk about it.

Infectious disease policy

The meeting space is well ventilated, and we will not be imposing restrictions, other than requesting that participants stay home if they are ill. If infection numbers change, we will change our policies accordingly.

Contraindications

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy is not indicated for the following conditions and diagnoses: pregnancy, uncontrolled hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, active addiction, active mania or psychosis, or personality disorders. Although ketamine tends to play well with other medications, some may be contraindicated; this will be determined at your medical screening. Other exclusions exist; eligibility for Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy is at the sole discretion of the prescribing physician.

Safety Precautions

Side effects of ketamine treatment may include, but are not limited to, altered sense of time, increased blood pressure or heart rate, diminished ability to see / hear / feel, mental confusion, nausea / vomiting, rapid eye movements, restlessness, blurred vision, dry mouth, slurred speech, elevated intraocular or intracranial pressure, excitability, appetite suppression, and synesthesia (a mingling of the senses). People that have bladder problems might want to consult with their doctors before proceeding.

Adverse side-effects are rare when medical protocols are carefully adhered to. By following the safety protocols outlined by our clinical team, you can prevent or mitigate unwanted side effects or adverse reactions.

While ketamine has not been shown to be physically addictive, it has been shown to cause moderate psychological dependency in some recreational users.

Due to the dissociative nature of the ketamine experience, we ask that you not drive on the same day after taking the medicine. We will help arrange rideshares.

What is the experience like?

Now that we’ve covered the potential bad stuff, you should also know that ketamine can induce a state of calm, relaxed dissociation from one’s usual sense of reality. You might experience a myriad of feelings ranging from an elevation in mood, an openness to new ideas, an alleviation of obsessive thinking, less anxiety, an appreciation for nature, a rediscovery of purpose, inspiration, ease, lightness of being, a new and curious relationship to things that used to feel overwhelming, and a sense of expanded, spacious awareness. Those working in the Internal Family Systems framework may notice a new sense of unblending from parts and thus an increased ability to bring compassion to them.
